S S, D D! 31/08/2010

I wake up in the morning.
I brush my teeth, wash my face.
I make a cup of tea, light a cigarette.
I light another and then another; finish the tea.

I get dressed, put on my shoes.
I look at a creature in the mirror.
Looking back at me. Blank stare,
taut features, skeletal body.

I go to class, feeling numb.
Looking through the eyes of
a zombie. Showing no emotion,
feeling none. Walking through mist.

I go to work, nodding to colleagues.
A machine on auto-pilot. Performing
mundane tasks. Same shit, different
day. People start to leave, I’m all alone.

I get home, its dark outside; the streets
are empty. Sit in front of the portal to
the world beyond. It’s dark in the room;
slow mournful tunes play, the night goes on.

The sleeping pills kick in. He wishes for eternal
Sleep. A voice in the distance whispers, “Stress
not my friend. I shall soon be there to fulfill your
desire,” and a smile creeps on his sleeping face. Same shit, one more day.
